Taking advantage of the holidays to practice some sports is a great way to spend days out of the routine. The most interesting thing is that you won’t need much exercise on the beach. In this article, we will give you some tips for exercising on the beach.
Exercise on the beach: a great idea!
Lying in the sun for hours can be a good vacation plan, but only for the first day. We are sure that afterwards you will be bored and will want to do something more lively, so that you do not fall asleep on the sand.
Many choose to exercise on the beach early in the morning, as there are fewer people. Instead, others prefer the “rush hours” to make friends and, at the same time, play a team sport.
The truth is that the beach offers us many different alternatives, which push us not to abandon the routine we have followed throughout the year and give us new ideas to start having healthier habits.
Of course, it also helps not to feel so guilty about enjoying the hotel breakfast to the full or going out for dinner every night, with alcohol and desserts included.
Tips for exercising on the beach
It is not necessary to have an enviable physique, nor to train all day, nor to leave aside other activities or walks planned during the holidays. Yet we can exercise on the beach to spend time with our family and, why not, to reconnect with ourselves. However, some advice is worth following:
1. Use sunscreen
While not everyone likes to run and move in the sea, we recommend that you use a water and sweat resistant protective factor. Even if the day is cloudy or you work out very early in the morning, don’t forget to apply the protection every two to three hours.
Running can become boring exercise if we don’t have something that motivates us, so having someone else’s company can be fun.
2. Wear hat and sunglasses
You may think it’s a little annoying to wear a hat and sunglasses for the sea, but keep in mind that sand and water are surfaces that reflect the sun and can damage your eyes and skin. Also, with the hat you will avoid heat exhaustion.
3. Drink lots of water
Hydration is essential at any time of the year, but especially if you have decided to exercise on the beach. You should always have water on hand to stay hydrated.
Practical examples for exercising on the beach
Can’t think about how to train on the beach? We give you some fun and effective ideas:
You may not know how to swim or have no experience, but you can certainly move your legs and arms underwater. Without realizing it, you will exercise and burn calories.
2. Jump on the waves
This is a more than fun activity that you can do with your children: without realizing it, you will have taken the opportunity to exercise at the same time. It’s simple: you have to get into the water a bit, at least until it reaches hip height, and jump every time a wave approaches.
3. Beach sports
There are many: volleyball, football or tennis. Most sports can be played on the beach and are great fun. In some beaches there are also delimited fields and nets set up for playing. Take the opportunity to make new friends or have fun with your family!
In addition, there is also the possibility of practicing water sports, for example surfing. Just being on the board allows you to exercise abs, legs and balance. Some people may be afraid to get up or find it very difficult. In that case, you can get on your stomach and move your arms and feet in the waves.
4. Walk on the beach
There is nothing more relaxing than taking a walk by the sea, alone or in company. Doing it early in the morning can be really relaxing and help you find yourself. However, if you want to lose weight or tone your legs, pick up your pace and run to the beach.
Finally, you may not know it, but you can work out on the beach while maintaining your usual gym routine. This involves doing squats, sit-ups or push-ups while looking out to sea, which can be a much bigger motivation than doing it surrounded by machines. There are no more excuses for lounging on vacation!
